A 9-year-old student in the Raymore-Peculiar District died
Friday of heat-related injuries he sustained last weekend when he accidentally
locked himself in the trunk of his mother's car.
Jesse Snyder was in the second grade this past year at Stonegate Elementary
School.
The incident happened in Kansas City. According to police reports, Snyder had
gone outside where his mother believed he was playing in the backyard. When she
went to look for him and was unable to locate him, she and her two older
children began searching the house for him. According to authorities, when she
was unable to locate the boy, his mother began driving to the park. While
driving she heard a noise in the trunk. She pulled over to look and found the
boy there.
When police arrived the boy was unresponsive, according to reports.
He was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center and later to Children's Mercy
Hospital where he died on Friday.
Memorial services were held Tuesday in Kansas city.
His parents are Jeffrey and Stephanie Snyder.
