Texoma girl dies in hot car
ARCHER COUNTY, TX-- A little three-year-old Texoma girl died over the weekend
after the Archer County, Texas Sheriff says she apparently got trapped inside a
hot car. It happened Saturday night outside her family's home, coincidentally on
the last day of summer.
Sheriff Ed Daniels says the girl's father and stepmother found her in the back
seat of their car, already dead. Sunday, the medical examiner told the sheriff
that the girl's death was consistent with hyperthermia.
Daniels says family members told him the girl could have been in the car for an
hour to an hour and a half. Skywarn-7 weather records show the outdoor
temperature was around 92 degrees at 5pm Saturday in Archer County. Inside a
car, that number could have risen to 120 to 130 degrees.
The sheriff says this appears to be an unfortunate accident although his office
is still investigating the girl's death.
