A 3-month old baby girl has died after being left in the back seat of her
grandmother's SUV, according to Miami police officials.
Lt. Ignatius Carroll, Jr. of Miami Fire Rescue confirms the infant was found in
a car just before 1:00 p.m. Thursday. When Miami Fire Rescue crews arrived at
the home, located at NW 5th Avenue and 68th Street, rescue personnel found the
lifeless child on a bed in the apartment, presumably someone had moved her
inside. Attempts to save the baby were unsuccessful.
Miami police now say the baby's grandmother had driven her daughter to work
Thursday. When she returned home around 8:30 a.m., she forgot the baby was in
the back seat. Police say the baby was in the vehicle for about four hours
before the grandmother remembered her granddaughter was still inside.
In video shot by Chopper 4, a white SUV with a "baby on board" sign in the
window was surrounded by yellow police tape.
Thursday, Miami recorded a record high temperature of 87-degrees which means the
interior of a car could have potentially been 20 to 30 degrees warmer.
