Father Charged in Death of Baby Left in Car

Hunt Valley, Md (AP) - A Baltimore County father is facing charges after police
say he accidentally left his one-year-old child in the backseat of his car and
the child later died.
It happened September 23rd on McCormick Road in Hunt Valley. The father, David
Barnhill, told police he was supposed to take the boy to the baby-sitter's, but
he forgot and drove to work instead.
Baltimore County police say Barnhill arrived at work at 8 am and didn't return
to the car until 11 am. That's when he found the child in a lethargic state.
Barnhill says he tried to cool the child down with some water and then rushed
him to the hospital. He died two days later.
Barnhill told officers he was distracted by traffic and an illness in his
family.
He is charged with child abuse resulting in death, child neglect and reckless
endangerment.

A Timonium man has been charged in the death of his 13-month-old son, who was left in a car while the man went to work, police said.
The man was to have taken the boy to a day care arrangement, police said.
The boy was left in a car for about 3 1/2 hours Sept. 23 outside his father's workplace, and when the man returned and found the child hot and lethargic, the boy was hospitalized, police said.
Kyrt William Barnhill died two days later, police said.
David Barnhill, 36, of the first block of Dickens Square, is charged with child abuse resulting in death, child neglect and reckless endangerment, police said.
