Baby left in hot car in Wellington dies

WELLINGTON — An 8-month-old girl died this morning, five days after she

fell critically ill when she was left in a hot car by her grandfather for more than an hour, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Jayda Urioste died at about 8 this morning at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Jose Roberto Urioste, 49, parked his 2002 Ford Focus in the driveway at his Appaloosa Trail home in Wellington and went inside without realizing his granddaughter was still in her car seat, the sheriff's office said.

An autopsy will be conducted, and the special investigations division is investigating the incident.

WELLINGTON – An 8-month-old girl was rushed to an area hospital on Friday after she was left alone in a hot car at her home, the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office said.

Jayda Urioste was taken to the ICU unit at Palms West Hospital in nearby Loxahatchee. A condition report was not immediately available.

According to Paul Miller, PBSO spokesman, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when the child's 39-year-old grandfather returned home with her to the 2200 block of Appaloosa Trail.

The grandfather went into the house, but the child was left alone in the Ford Focus for about an hour before family members realized the child was not in the home and rushed to the hot car.

No arrest has been made in the case, Miller said. The investigation continues.
