GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Police say a five-month-old girl died here after being left
in a minivan all day.
Authorities on Wednesday did not immediately release the name of the girl or the
mother, who police said thought she had dropped the child off at day care before
going to work in the morning.
Sgt. Jeff Burgess said the mother drove to her day care about 5:30 p.m. after
leaving work, and was told she had not dropped the girl off earlier.
"They ran out to her vehicle, and the infant was still in the car seat in the
vehicle," Burgess said.
Emergency officials were unable to revive the child, police said.
The high temperature in Grand Forks on Wednesday was 78 degrees, according to
the National Weather Service. Burgess said he did not immediately know whether
the minivan's windows had all been sealed throughout the day.
He also did not know the exact amount of time the girl had been in the minivan.
Burgess said no arrests were made Wednesday. The state crime bureau was
investigating.
